Kongque with day/night indicator is one of the classic VCMs. Its design is simple and ingenious. The 24-hour hand moves counter-clockwise, and the subdial's orientation ensures that neither hour hand ever obscures the sun or the moon.
It probably dates to the late 1980s or early 1990s, and its introduction may have been an attempt to produce a value-added model in the competitive market of the time. Unfortunately for the factory it did not sell well. Fortunately for collectors, however, as a result many new old stock models are available today. The white dial model (in some lighting conditions it looks off-white) is seen much less often than models with yellow or gold dials.
